Postcode does not get you to site. If approaching from the south, continue north along Hogmoor Road after the satnav tells you that you have arrived. There are housing developments on the left, Hogmoor Inclosure carpark/site entrance is slightly further on and on the opposite side of the road on the right.
There will be event publicity banners on display in the locality to help with finding event site.
Site is a sandy heathland so any LHE structures should have some larger tent pegs especially if weather has been wet/windy.
Plastic tents need to be pitched near LHE and taken down each day before the public arrive.
event open to the public 10am - 4pm.
Arena slots will be 2x daily with weapons and archery display with time for a shield wall and skirmish as well as kiddi-vike.
Our LHE will have Saxon and Viking presence as we are portraying a potential class between the resident Saxons and The Great Heathan Army as they travel along the south coast through Wessex.
Anyone with a Saxon costume from 6th century - 1066 will be welcome to wear their costume and explain their character as this will fit in with the history walks that the organisers do, explaining the Saxon history or the Petersfield area.
Fire boxes must be raised and no fire pits used after hours! The Heathland has valuable wildlife present (lizards, snakes and small mammals etc.). If the weather has been very dry before the event, extra care must be taken with fires as the heath is vulnerable to fires from sparks. This also means that cigarettes after hours must be disposed of carefully. I will have containers with damp sand in to ensure we leave a clean footprint.
There is a water point at the cafe in the car park. This is available 24hrs a day. The cafe and public, brick toilets are only available during normal hours (9am-5pm).
Re-enactors are advised to bring a full water container to the event and also a way of taking water on the battlefield (we will provide water also).
There will be portaloos a little walk from LHE (I have requested one nearer in the past but this was not possible).
Dogs are welcome at this event but they must be kept on the lead the whole time and the owners must clean up after their pets.
In previous years, the cafe has opened before hours to provide bacon butties and tea/coffee for all re-enactors (reasonable price). There are also food concession trucks during the day.
Shopping is not that close and neither is the pub so please bring the food and drink that you will need over the time of camping.
I have asked about camping overnight on Friday but have not received any info about this yet - update to follow when info shared with me.
As well as the arena archery, there will be a 'Have a go' archery range in LHE (double skin poles etc.). This will only be available to the public (mainly children) when the group missiles officer is not in the arena. There will be other group archers and marshals helping with this activity. Between sessions the equipment will be stored in the GLs LH tent or group awning if no Friday pm camping.
All re-enactor's vehicles can be parked after unloading, in the car park, some years they have asked us to park in a car park a little walking distance from site to allow more public car parking onsite.
They can also be slept in to avoid the need for erecting plastic tents if so desired.
There will be another Saxon group, a medieval group and us in attendance.
